Jai Ho is a typical masaala movie starring Salman Khan
If you are a devoted Salman Khan fan, ‘Jai Ho’ is a big treat waiting for you. If you are not a Salman fan, or if you are given to the habit of finding logic in a Bollywood movie, ‘Jai Ho’ might even disappoint you. As a free citizen of a democratic country, you have all the rights to enjoy this potboiler of a movie. However, others too have every right to crib about it.
Those who have enjoyed Salman Khan’s earlier films – ‘Wanted’, ‘Dabangg’, ‘Bodyguard’, ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ and ‘Dabangg 2’ – will definitely like this movie. And if you are below 13, you will certainly love it. Because it has everything that you, probably, are looking for. Great action, fights, car and bike chase, patriotism, blood and gore, lewd remarks, double entendres and a bit of romance as well as an Aam Admi touch.
Salman Khan is obviously ageing. However, he looks great in action and fight scenes. It is good that he does not have to speak too much in the movie. He breaks bones with amazing speed and that is the most important USP of ‘Jai Ho’.
Apart from Salman Khan’s presence, this movie does not have much to offer, despite having in its star cast actors like Tabu, Nadira and Danny. Genelia D’Souza, surprisingly, plays a handicapped girl and garners some sympathy. There is Suniel Shetty too as an army officer. However, all these actors remain on the sidelines while Salman Khan keeps smashing bones at regular intervals.
The music is unimpressive. There is a ‘Tere Naina’ lyric too. However, it is not as melodious as ‘Tere Naina Bade Dagabaz re’ from ‘Dabangg 2’. ‘Apna kaam banta’ score has plain stupid lyrics. The dialogues don’t test you much. Even a 5-year-old would connect with the dialogues easily.
It was a debut film for the heroine Daisy Shah. However, she fails to impress in her first movie, despite having commendable looks and great body.
Directed by Sohail Khan, ‘Jai Ho’ is a typical masaala movie with a single-minded focus on encashing the star-power in Salman Khan. And it seems it will succeed in achieving its aim quite comfortably.
